Completed arrangements are being announced for Paulus Petrus “Paul” Leenaarts, 59, of Akron, Ohio, who died at his home March 23, 2011. He was the husband of the former Winnie Wright, who grew up in Union City, and the son-in-law of LaRue Wright of Union City.
The family will receive friends noon-2 p.m. Tuesday in the old sanctuary at Union City First Baptist Church, with burial and a graveside service following at 3 in New Haven Cemetery in Ridgely. The Rev. John Paul Berry will officiate.
The family requests that memorials be made to Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
He was born Aug. 18, 1951, in Drunea, in the Netherlands. He immigrated to the United States with his parents, Irene Leenaarts of Cary, N.C., and the late Jack Leenaarts Sr., in 1953 and received his degree from the University of Tennessee in 1977. He had been employed by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. for 38 years, beginning his employment in Union City and later moving to Lawton, Okla.; Akron; Tyler, Texas; and Campina, Brazil. The family then returned to Akron. He enjoyed music, racing and boating.
He had been married to the former Winnie Wright for 36 years.
Survivors also include his son, Jason Leenaarts of Akron; his grandson, Jackson Leenaarts of Akron; his sister, the former Emke Leenaarts of Atlanta; and his brother, Jack Leenaarts Jr. of Cary.
