A Martin man was arrested in attempting to steal DVDs from Wal-Mart Wednesday afternoon.
According to a report released by Ptl. Bradley Cook of the Martin Police Department, Danny Allen, 38, was seen selecting two movies from Wal-Mart’s electronics department and taking them to the pet department.
The report stated that Allen then went to the pet department and cracked the DVD cases open. Allen noticed he was being followed and dropped the DVDs in question to go check out at Register 7.
Due to the condition of the DVD cases, the complainant advised that the DVDs could not be sold and had to be claimed or sent back to the home office thus causing financial loss for Wal-Mart.
The combined total worth of the DVDs was found to be $34.96. Additionally, the complainant advised that Allen had been caught shoplifting in the Union City Wal-Mart and Allen signed a criminal trespass from there.
According to the report, the complainant was able to produce a copy of the trespass form signed by Allen on July 2, 2010 and the form stated that as of July 2, 2010, Allen could not enter onto Wal-Mart property for any reason.
Ptl. Cook read Allen his Miranda rights and Allen agreed to speak with Ptl. Cook.
The report went on to state that Allen admitted to taking the DVDs and cracking them open with the intent to steal them from Wal-Mart. Allen also admitted to knowing that he was not supposed to be on Wal-Mart property for the incident that happened in Union City on July 2, 2010.
He was taken into custody without and was transported to MPD for booking procedures.
