Shiloh National Military Park will host Park Day — the nation’s largest volunteer effort for the Civil War battlefields and historic sites — on April 2.
This annual event, sponsored by the History Channel and Civil War Trust, brings together Civil War enthusiasts from around the country who volunteer their time and energy to help preserve the nation’s battlefields.
Shiloh rangers and volunteers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. will be placing wood chips on the recently-completed Indian Mound trail to help prevent erosion. Volunteers will be awarded Park Day T-shirts and patches provided by the History Channel and Civil War Trust. Space is limited and volunteers are asked to register in advance by contacting Ranger Chris Mekow by phone at (731) 689-5696 or by e-mail at email@example.com.
Volunteers will meet at the Shiloh visitor center no later than 9 a.m. Participants are asked to dress appropriately for the weather and bring work gloves.
Rain or severe weather will cancel Park Day activities. The rain date for Park Day is scheduled for April 30.
