Quality over quantity.

The Westview boys tennis team may be small in number, but it made a big splash during its opening match on Friday.

Despite having just two players, the Charger boys swept all three of their matches against Crockett County.

However, the Cavaliers were declared the overall victors via way of the forfeit of the other four matches.

On the girls’ side, Westview fell by a 5-2 margin.

The Charger tennis squads returned to the court on Monday at home vs. Gibson County.

That game will be in Thursday’s edition of The Press. The W’view tennis teams head to Union City this afternoon.

In boys’ action on Thursday, Tanner Spencer and Ethan Plunk both were victorious by an 8-5 margin over their respective opponents — William Northern and Lucas Bushart.

Spencer and Plunk also combined for a doubles victory by an 8-6 count over Northern and Bushart.

Girls’ action at UT Martin on Thursday had Cara Burnham as the lone Lady Charger victor by an 8-5 margin over Sarah Littlejohn.

Burnham also combined with Melissa Darroch to double (8-4) Lady Cavaliers Elizabeth Moore and Jennifer Bushart.

In other action involving W’view and Crockett County, Darroch lost to Moore 8-4.

Lady Chargers Ashley Gross and Madison Williams fell by scores of 8-4 and 6-4 to Hannah Russell and Madison Churchwell, respectively.

Westview No. 3 seed Chantia Brown lost to Lady Cavalier Jennifer Bushart 8-5.

Thursday’s other girls’ doubles match had Westview’s Brown and Gross edged 9-7 by Littlejohn and Dillon.
