A local woman was charged with driving under the influence following an alleged incident Monday morning on Oak Street in Union City.
Crystal Alisa Edgar, 25, of 927 South Home St., Union City, was arrested at 9:02 a.m. in the 700 block of Oak Street, according to a Union City Police Department report.
Police had responded about 8:30 a.m. to a possible traffic accident with injuries in the area of 727 Oak St. Upon arrival, officers found it appeared a vehicle had struck a telephone pole and was disabled in the roadway. Police located the vehicle occupants sitting on a bench in the front yard of 727 Oak St.
The driver, identified as Ms. Edgar, told police she had just left her house and the front left tire on her vehicle blew out. She said it veered across the street to the left and struck a utility pole. She had her two children in the vehicle with her at the time and they were both taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City for treatment of injuries.
According to the report, while police were speaking with Ms. Edgar, they noticed her speech was slurred and she was swaying, along with some other behavior, and field sobriety tests were conducted. As a result, she was arrested on the DUI charge. Police later determined her driver’s license is currently suspended and police also indicated other charges are pending in connection with the two minor children being in the vehicle.
