Joe Gaylon Burton Sr., 49, of Obion died March 18, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City.
Services were set for 1 p.m. today at Church of Jesus Christ near Newbern, with the Rev. Julian Huey officiating. Burial was to follow in Mount Moriah Cemetery.
White-Ranson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were to be Harvey Donnell, Jerry Chandler, Fred Baker, Richard Walley, Joel Reynolds and Stephen Crane. Honorary pallbearers were to be Johnny Guy, Randy Richardson and Jason Huey.
The family requests that memorials be made to Church of Jesus Christ, 3301 Sharp’s Ferry Road, Newbern, TN 38059.
He was born July 1, 1961, in Union City, son of Allen Burton of Hornbeak and the late Margaret (Williams) Burton. He married the former Elizabeth Ann Warren March 12, 1980. She survives. He was a log lift operator for Storey Sawmill and Lumber Co., where he was employed for more than 30 years, and was a member of Church of Jesus Christ in Dyersburg and of Sons of Confederate Veterans.
He is also survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Joni and Brandon Akins of Obion and Angela and David Cotten of Racine, Mo.; his son, Joe Burton Jr. of Obion; six grandchildren, Tyler Cotten and Gracelyn Cotten, both of Racine, and Sara Burton, Dustin Walker, Jamie Walker and Makaylin Crowder, all of Obion; his sister and brother-in-law, Susie and Bruce Bennett of Hornbeak; two brothers and his sister-in-law, Jerry Burton and Randy and Gigi Burton, all of Hornbeak; his stepmother, Loureen Burton of Hornbeak; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Martha Burton.
