Classic OC look is 2nd
Obion Central’s play at the Tiger Classic in Meigs County might be worth a “second” look.
Altogether, the Lady Rebel softball team finished with an overall 3-3 worksheet in the East Tennessee event over the weekend, but the county locals won three straight games — in pool and tournament play — before falling to the McMinn County 5-4 in the championship game on Saturday.
Central prevailed in pool play action against Whitwell on Friday by a 10-1 margin.
The Lady Rebels also bested Bradley Central 4-0 and Chattanooga Arts and Science 1-0 in tournament action on Saturday.
Two of OC’s three defeats were in pool play.
The Lady Rebels fell to the host team by a 4-3 margin and to Johnson County 8-2 in Friday’s pool action.
Today’s softball slate has Union City at Dresden.
McMinn Co. 5, OC 4
Carly Whipple drove in all four Lady Rebel runs during Saturday’s finale for the county locals at the Tiger Classic.
Whipple had two hits, as did teammate Payton Robertson.
Macy Allison went the distance, but absorbed the mound defeat.
OC 1, Chatt. Arts 0
Winning pitcher Meaghen Strayhorn and Leann Staser had two hits each for the victorious Lady Rebels in the low scoring affair.
Alex Wilson also had one hit for Central.
Allison earned the save by getting the final two outs.
OC 4, Bradley Cent. 0
Robertson and Strayhorn both had one RBI and one hit for the Lady Rebels against BC.
Also, Wilson singled once as did Whipple, Staser and Madi Bell.
Allison tossed the complete game to gain the mound triumph.
OC 10, Whitwell 1
The bats were cracking during OC’s most lopsided victory at Meigs County.
Kayla Bramlett and Mandi McDaniel both chased home a pair for the Lady Rebels.
Meanwhile, Wilson, Robertson and Strayhorn each totaled a pair of safeties.
Julianne Albright was the winning pitcher.
Johnson Co. 8, OC 2
Wilson had the lone RBI, while Bell logged Central’s only hit during its loss to JC.
Wilson absorbed the mound defeat.
Meigs Co. 4, OC 3
Bramlett was 3-for-4, while Robertson drove in two runs against MC.
Staser and Whipple both finished with two hits for the Lady Rebels. Staser also drove in a run.
Strayhorn started, Albright hurled on inning in relief and Allison absorbed the mound defeat on an unearned run.
