Billy Wayne “Bill” Shanklin, 53, of Union City was pronounced dead on arrival at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City March 20, 2011.
Services will bea 2 p.m. Wednesday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with the Revs. Eddie Mallonee and Jerry Leggett officiating. Burial will follow in Obion County Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call at the funeral home 5-8 p.m. Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Tim Walker, Darrell Poynter, Fred Wilkes, Scottie Hayes, Scottie Lee Hayes, Todd Barber, Jackie Johnson and Ricky Cobb. Honorary pallbearers will be Allan Herchenhahn, Kenny Crews, Phillip Puckett, Gavin Pledge and his nieces and nephews.
The family requests that memorials be made to the preschool department at Union City Second Baptist Church or the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation at Multiple Sclerosis Foundation National Headquarters, Donations, 6520 North Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309-2130.
He was born May 14, 1957, in Cook County, Ill., son of Venita (Wallace) Drenning of Union City and the late Ronald Guy Shanklin. He married the former Sherry Myers July 30, 1977. She survives. He was a carpenter and was a U.S. Army National Guard member for 31 years, earning the rank of sergeant. He was a member of Union City Second Baptist Church.
He is also survived by two sons and his daughter-in-law, Robert Guy Shanklin of Union City and Ryan Wayne and Erin Shanklin of Bradford; two grandchildren, Brett Stowell of Union City and Gavin Pledge of Bradford; four sisters, Leavenia Campbell of Dyer, Shirley Burzynski of Bellefonte, Penn., Sandy Comstock of Rutherford and Priscilla Burcato of Bridge View, Ill.; two brothers, Bobby Rice of Murfreesboro and Dennis Shanklin of Ottumwa, Iowa; his stepfather, Eugene Drenning of Union City; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Donald Ray Shanklin.
