Our residents went all green, purple and gold in the spirit of Mardi Gras this week. They had lots and enjoyed a great feast at the party. They dined on sub sandwiches, sour cream and onion chips, tons of sweet pickles, iced cookies with festive matching sprinkles, and soft drinks of choice.  The room was decorated with purple table clothes tons of Mardi Gras balloons, metallic centerpieces and ceiling cascades. Since you cannot have a Mardi Gras party without beads, everyone left wearing multiple strands in a variety of colors. Everyone had a good time!

This week’s Cover Card winners were Garl Winstead, Joyce Bryant, Lillian Melton, Dorothy Vitalo, Melba Saunders, Betty Parham, Charcie Stewart, and Thyra Provine. We had extra winners because Lisa Cavin, Staff Coordinator, donated extra money.  We were thrilled to have her newest CNA class with us on Thursday for one-line Bingo.  They did a wonderful job conducting Bingo giving lots of help for those in need.  For the completion of the one-line Bingo, each participant received a snack from our prize bin filled with a large variety of goodies.

This week’s sporting competitions were outstanding! The residents did a remarkable job and the sportsmanship was even better! Ray Crowell showed his strength at the Discus Throw.  His throw went the length of the room giving him first place, but Barry Flowers was just inches away in second place. Thyra Provine was the victor of Shuffleboard.  Her runner-up was Geneva Castleman.  Thyra was also the winner at Ring Toss. She made was able to ring the big points peg a multitude of times.  Lois Morris finished in second place also having a very high score.

The residents gathered for Show and Tell on Friday morning.  Tea Cake style cookies were served along with pink lemonade.  The residents enjoyed each others fellowship along with a ragdoll brought by Thyra Provine.  She made the doll herself and was proud to show it off to the residents.

For this week’s social hour, the residents received a very sweet treat.  Our Social worker, Amanda Stout, donated fresh strawberries.  We sliced them and allowed them time to juice up and then served them over vanilla ice cream with a dollop of whipped cream to top it off.

A remarkable 40 residents requested the dessert.  The residents were all smiling as they devoured the treat and it was happy bowls being sent back.

The residents were blessed with three great musical performances this week.  The Memory Makers were with us on Wednesday afternoon and put on a terrific show.  They played all the big band classics and filled the facility with wonderful music.  Everyone was singing and clapping along.  The Doster Family performed on Friday night to a packed house.  They are truly talented family and our residents are always thrilled to have them with us.  They are with us every second Friday night of the month.  Violet Totty and the Good Timers provided our Sunday afternoon song service.  They have a wonderful sound and bring a huge assortment of music and songs to perform.  They always entertain and we are delighted to have them.

Each morning at 8:30, the residents gather to have devotional.  It is a casual gathering, but a wonderful way to start the day.  Dresden First United Methodist Church was with us on Tuesday afternoon for their monthly service.  They always bring a wonderful group of congregation members.  They provide a spectacular song service and sermon each month.  The residents absolutely love having them.  Macedonia Church of Christ and Dresden First Baptist Church provided our Sunday morning services.  They bless us so much by providing exquisite church services with the ease of being in house.  Our residents value their religion so much and we are so fortunate to have such a caring community providing top-notch services.

Oak Grove Church made a monetary donation to our special activity fund.  This money is used to provide items for our country store and for any resident in need of items.  Debbie Boone provided a wide assortment of jewelry and goodies for our next country store as well.

We are so thankful for all donations and time spent for our residents.  You are truly treasures to us!
