The New Salem FCE Club met at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 16. Hostess Lillian Stoker invited everyone to her son, Ron Stoker’s home in Martin called Ivandale, built in 1895 by Dr. Sebastian. It was a treat for all of us to tour the house, which has been redecorated and furnished in the Victorian Era. After the tour, Stoker provided a delicious lunch.
Following lunch, the club had its regular meeting with 13 members and two visitors present. Everyone wore red for February, the month of Heart and Valentine’s Day.
Bettie Higgs opened the meeting with reading the thought for the day, “To Love and be Loved is to Feel the Sun from both sides.” – David Viscott. She introduced visitors, Mrs. Stoker’s daughter, Judy Fisher and a friend, Sherry Buchanan.
Devotion Leader Pat Potter gave the devotion on “A God Who Listens.” She read a poem and Leviticus 116:23. Mary E. Bell led in singing “Let Me Call You Sweetheart.”
Higgs read a birthday card for Sylvia Simmons and Sara Simmons – February birthdays – and an anniversary card for Evonne Shopher and Frances Clark, followed by singing “Happy Birthday” and “Happy Anniversary” to them. All repeated the Club Creed together.
Ruby Rogers called the roll as each one gave a Valentine to the person on her left and told her favorite “heart candy saying.” They also told the number of items they brought for We Care.
They took care of routine business they needed to be completed for the beginning of 2011 and also finalized things to do for the Achievement Luncheon on March 15. That included the Silent Auction, Cultural Arts and Fashion Show.
President Higgs closed the meeting by reading “Love is the only thing that we carry with us when we go and it makes the end so easy.” – Louisa May Alcott.
A recreation time included games and prizes.
It was another enjoyable day for FCE. The club welcomes ladies who would like to join the club. The meeting time is at 1:30 p.m., on first Friday of each month. Contact a member of the club for more information or call the Extension Office at 364-3164.
