Everyone is in eager anticipation of spring at our facility. We are starting to see buttercups popping up and enjoying the surprise warm days by sitting on the porch with our light jackets. The facility is also taking on a spring turn as the brighter decorations start going up. We had two rounds of everyone’s favorite game BINGO! This week’s Cover Card winners were Lillian Melton, Nancy Mansfield, Melba Saunders, Mary Clark, Vivian Edwards, and Garl Winstead. For One-line Bingo, each of the participants received a chance at the snack bin. It was filled to the brim with tons of goodie options.
Lisa Cavin, LPN and Staff Development, started a new CNA class for our facility. The residents are thrilled to have them with us and got to meet everyone as they provided our Monday afternoon fingernail painting. They did a remarkable job and managed to make everyone very happy with their personal manicures.
Our March Resident Council Meeting was held on Wednesday. We had 15 residents and 10 approved employees present at the closed meeting. Alberta Barker presided over the meeting leading residents in discussions about menu of the month, upcoming events, likes, dislikes and preferences.
We encourage all our residents able to attend so their voices can be heard. The residents participated in three different sports competitions this week. Thyra Provine won the beanbag toss by default since all the others decided to read, watch TV or do puzzles in the activity room instead. We did add a few snacks to the mix just to keep everyone pleased. Lois Morris was the winner of the Basketball Shootout with Obra Sims coming in as runner-up.
He took first place honors when it came to Strike Out leading the group with Barry Flowers close behind in second. For this week’s social hour, residents enjoyed soft cookies with icing along with some choosing ice cream or sherbert. They love having sweet treats through week and always get a say in the food being served. The fellowship and laughter are always the best part of any social. The residents also enjoyed a special movie hour this week. They were all laughing along with the animated movie Alien 51. We kicked of our hopes of spring with tulip coloring sheets featuring a very cute fluffy bunny. The residents also had a fun trivia round with refreshments.
Thompson Creek Baptist Church’s youth group provided a wonderful singing for our residents on Friday evening. They were all still talking about how special the group was come Monday morning. Macedonia Church of Christ and Dresden First Baptist Church provided our Sunday morning church services. Freeman Chapels Methodist Church does an outstanding job with the first Sunday afternoon services for our facility. Bethel Youth Group once again filled our facility with their melodic voices at the evening service. They are truly blessed with talent!
Second Wind Dreams popped up in the facility again brightening four of our residents with surprise gifts and wishes! Larry Melton received a huge bag filled with tons of snacks including chips, drinks and candy. Shelby Rushing was thrilled to receive a beautiful light pink and white sweater set.
It was very pretty and delicate and she looks forward to wearing it. Ruby Sanders received a deluxe bath set in a wonderful fragrance along with a huge assortment of lip glosses. She will be smelling wonderful and looking beautiful! Betty Parham was all smiles as she opened her gift! She was absolutely delighted as she received three graphic t-shirts. She will be sporting the funny shirts in style!
We really appreciate all who give to this wonderful program and if you would like to make a residents wish come true please contact us at the facility!
