The Messenger has learned of the death of the Rev. Robert “Bob” Hull of McKenzie, who died March 5, 2011. He and his wife of 59 years, Kathryn “Kathy” (Shelton) Hull, began their ministry as youth leaders at Union City Cumberland Presbyterian Church in the early 1950s.
Services were at the Renaissance Center in McKenzie, with burial following in Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery. Brummitt Funeral Home in McKenzie was in charge of arrangements.
He attended the former Bethel College in McKenzie and received a bachelor of arts degree in 1952. In 1955, he was awarded a bachelor of divinity degree from the Theological Seminary of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
He had served several churches as pastor in Whitney, Texas; Marlow, Okla.; Metarie, La.; Knoxville; Walnut Grove; Lawrenceburg; Murfreesboro; and McKenzie and had also served as the secretary of stewardship of the board of finance for the denomination in Memphis. He had been moderator of the church’s General Assembly in 1980 and had served in leadership positions at the presbytery, synod and denominational levels.
Since 1994, he had been pastor of Hopewell Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Sidonia.
Survivors also include three sons, Robert A. “Bobby” Hull of Charlottesville, Va., Thomas N. “Tom” Hull of Austin, Texas, and James Michael “Mike” Hull of New Rochelle, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Robin Christina Hull and Peter Michael Hull, both of Charlottesville, Sean Patrick Gahler-Hull of New Rochelle and Rachel Lynn Hull of Austin; and his great-granddaughter, Lillian Grace Hull of Charlottesville.
