At The Tunnel Hair and Tanning Parlour in Union City, the owners’ love of vintage/retro style is what sparked the idea for the unique design of the salon.
“‘Embracing the beauty of the past with a modern flair’ became our motto and inspiration for what our new business has become,” partner Jill Qualls said. “We wanted to present a new type of salon atmosphere to this area. Our goal was to reinvent one of the historic buildings of Union City — most commonly known as The Tunnel — into a fashionable hair and beauty lounge for all ages.”
Ms. Qualls said customers can expect to feel relaxed and pampered while enjoying light music, great conversation and, most of all, receiving a fantastic hair style.
“Our shampoo, cut and style is enhanced by a relaxing aromatherapy oil scalp and neck massage,” partner Leigh Ann Russell said. “This service will begin with customers lying on one of our comfortable shampoo beds. Warm towels will be used for all hair appointments. We pride ourselves in education and are able to be the first and foremost when it comes to current styles and trends by regularly attending hair shows and cutting/coloring classes. We were chosen to become the first retailer of I.C.O.N. hair products in West Tennessee. This exclusive eco-friendly line was formulated in Spain and is the perfect blend of natural raw ingredients to create the art of the possible.”
The Tunnel Hair and Tanning Parlour is located at 120 East Main St., Suite B.
The salon opened for business Feb. 3 and is open 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays and 2-6 p.m. Sundays.
The telephone number for the business is 884-0082.
In addition to Ms. Qualls and Ms. Russell, Julie Morris is the third partner in the salon and Jason Milligan is a stylist.
Ms. Qualls has been doing hair for 10 years. She is a color and cutting specialist.
Ms. Russell has been in the beauty industry for 18 years. She is a master barber and color specialist and has gained experience by working in cities such as Boston, Denver and in the Nashville area.
Ms. Morris has been a hair stylist for eight years. She specializes in corrective color, cutting and hair extensions.
Milligan has been in the business for 20 years. He has designed his own shampoo line and has a patent pending on his own brand of shears. He is a color and cutting specialist as well.
Patricia Southerland is a nail technician and enjoys giving relaxing spa manicures and pedicures in the salon’s Eurospa massaging pedicure chair.
The stylists’ other specialties include the new creative nail polish system, called Shellac. The system is a no-chip high shine nail polish for natural nails that resists wear and tear for up to four weeks. Also, the latest flashy trend — Hair Flairs, as seen on “Housewives of Beverly Hills” — is a very popular service. The service adds sparkle and shine to any hair type, according to Ms. Qualls.
The salon also offers its new Brazilian keratin treatment, which is designed to make the hair smooth, shiny and frizz-free for up to four months. Also offered at the downtown Union City salon are level four and five tanning beds with facial tanners that contour to the tanner’s facial shape.
The downtown salon accepts appointments and walk-in customers.
