A trailer loaded with over 40,000 pounds of meat has been reported stolen from a Union City convenience store parking lot.
The trailer apparently was taken sometime Saturday or early Sunday from the lot of the Express Shop at 2021 West Reelfoot Ave., according to a Union City Police Department report.
Gerald Jones of Union City told police he dropped off his 53-foot refrigerated trailer on the lot about 12:30 p.m. Saturday. He discovered it was missing when he returned about 1 a.m. Sunday to pick it up.
Police reported the trailer was loaded with various types of meat from Sara Lee.
The trailer is white with the letters EWMF — for East West Motor Freight of Selmer — in red lettering on both sides near the front of the trailer and across the rear doors. The company trailer number, 405, is also on each side and the trailer bears Tennessee tag U253030.
The estimated value of the trailer is $60,000, with the value of its load of 40,593 pounds of meat not known at this time, according to the report.
Anyone who has information about the theft can call Crime Stoppers at 885-TIPS (885-8477) or e-mail Crime Stoppers at ucpd@ci.unioncity.tn.us to report tips anonymously. Tips may be worth rewards up to $1,000.
