Plans being made to cheer Skyhawks as bracket revealed
The mystery of which team the Skyhawks will tangle with next will be solved on Monday afternoon.
After that revelation, UT Martin’s second-year head coach Kevin McMillan and his staff will have to solve the puzzle of drawing up a winning game plan.
The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team will host an NCAA Tournament Selection Show Party beginning at 5 p.m., Monday in the Watkins Auditorium of the Boling University Center.
Fans will get a chance to meet the Skyhawk coaching staff and players and watch the NCAA Selection Show live on ESPN. Once the Skyhawks find out whom and where they will play in the first round of the NCAA Tournament beginning on March 19, find out what head coach Kevin McMillan has to say about his team’s opponent.
The Skyhawks defeated Tennessee Tech Saturday afternoon at Municipal Auditorium in Nashville to win the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament and claim the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
UT Martin is 21-10 on the year and finished with a 14-4 OVC worksheet. Freshman Jasmine Newsome and Heather Butler were named to the league’s all-tournament team. Newsome scored 24 points in the Tech win and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
Fans will also have a chance to purchase the brand new OVC Tournament championship shirts at the event. Short sleeve shirts are $15 and long sleeve shirts are $20.
Shirts commemorating UT Martin women’s basketball’s first-ever Ohio Valley Conference Tournament championship are now available for pre-sale.
The shirts are available in adult sizes small to 5XL and youth sizes small to XL.
A Skyhawk modified OVC Tournament championship logo is featured on the front of the shirt, while the back shows the NCAA logo with the phrase “Going to the Big Dance” above.
Fans interested in pre-ordering the T-shirts can call the UT Martin women’s basketball office at 731-881-7330 and reserve their order.
