Bingo night 

is planned

The Sharon eighth grade 2012 students will sponsor a bingo night fundraiser at 6:30 p.m., this Saturday at the Sharon Fire Department. Come out and enjoy a night of bingo for a $5 donation to support the students’ trip to Washington, D.C. Concessions, including hamburgers, hot dogs, tacos, drink and etc. will be available.

 

Free Clothes 

Give-away

The Oak Grove Claudette Closet Ministry will be open from 10 a.m.-noon this Saturday at the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church on West Peach Street, Martin. They will have men, women and children clothes of all sizes from small to plus sizes. Everything is free, so please come out.

 

Guest speaker 

is planned

New Home Missionary Baptist Church, corner of Bell Road and New Home Road, Martin, will be having a guest speaker on Sunday, March 13 and Sunday, March 20 at the 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. services. The speaker will be Bro. Jack Long, director of the Beulah Baptist Association in Union City. The congregation cordially invites everyone to attend these services.

 

Bethel University

sets Preview Day

Potential students can get a good idea of what Bethel University is all about Wednesday, March 16, by attending the school’s next Preview Day. Held on the McKenzie campus, the Preview Day will allow students to tour the campus and to meet with campus representatives. Additionally, students will get the chance to interact with current Bethel University students.

Registration for the event will begin in Cole Chapel of the Campbell Hall Administration Building beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Those who wish to attend the March 16 Preview Day are encouraged to contact Bethel’s Office of Admission either by phone at 731-352-4030 or by e-mail at admissions@bethelu.edu.

 

Retirement 

reception is set

Everyone is cordially invited to attend a retirement reception to honor Phillip M. Carr, agency manager for the Weakley County Farm Bureau in Dresden, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Friday, March 18 at the Weakley County Farm Bureau building at 810 Morrow St., Dresden.

 

Dance is scheduled

The Dresden Senior Citizen Center, 589 Evergreen St., will be hosting a fundraiser from 7-10 p.m. on Thursday, March 24 and featuring the Larry Frye Band. The admission will be $5 with door prizes and refreshments will be available.

 

Music scholarship will be presented

The Philharmonic Music Guild of Martin will present the Harriet Fulton Music Scholarship of $250 to a graduating high school senior in Weakley County who will major in music at the University of Tennessee at Martin during the 2011-2012 school year. The primary bases for selection will be musical ability and potential and an acceptable academic standing.

Auditions will be held Thursday, April 14 at 4 p.m. at the UTM Clement Hall, 210 Hurt St., Studio 315.

Students or teachers who want application forms may contact Charlotte May at 587-6848. Applications forms must be returned by April 7.

 

 

Coffee Break

Tours trip set

The Friends of Coffee Break Tours Relay for Life Team invite you to join them Saturday, april 23 for our spring fundraising bus tip to Nashville. The bus will leave from downtown Martin. They will be collecting supplies and dropping them off at the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge. They will tour Fontanel Mansion, the log home built by Grand Ole Opry member Barbara Mandrell. A sit down family style meal, admission to the Mansion, transportation and a donation to the West Weakley are included in the price of the trip.
