Ruby May Asher, 90, of Union City died 3:20 p.m. March 7, 2011, at Golden Living Center in Union City.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home. The Rev. Tommy Hall will officiate. Burial will follow in Old Republican Cemetery near Union City.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home 5-8 p.m. Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Tim Quinn, James Forrester, Steve Vaughn, Allen Posey, George Goddard and Teddy Montgomery. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne McClure and Ron Bates.
Mrs. Asher was born April 29, 1920, in Poinsett County, Ark., daughter of the late Benjamin Harrison and Rosie Lou Emma (Shepard) Butler. She married Walter D. Asher June 20, 1941. He died Aug. 28, 2003. Mrs. Asher was a member of First Assembly of God in Union City, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher and as a member of the Women’s Ministry Council. She was a licensed Assembly of God minister and a homemaker.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeannine and Bobby Webb of Union City and Angela and Mike O’Shaughnessy of Wilmington, Del.; two sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Walter W. and La Wanda Asher of Troy and Ken and Debra Asher of Union City; her son-in-law, Abe Griffin of Troy; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Demetrus Griffin; her great-grandson, Adam Roberson; and three sisters, Esther Martin, Virdie Forrester and Rachel Fagan.
