After nearly 20 years in business in downtown Union City, Sports Base owner Susie Wright is retiring and closing down her store.
She is selling out her Susie’s Nurse’s Uniforms side of the business completely and has sold the Sports Base side of the business to Jo Ann Smith at The Locker Room on West Reelfoot Avenue.
Mrs. Wright hopes to be out of her downtown Union City store by the end of this month. She has been busy liquidating her nursing inventory and transferring all her Sports Base equipment and inventory over to The Locker Room.
The Sports Base has a long history in Obion County.
Mrs. Wright has owned the business since June 1991. Her store has always been located on First Street in downtown Union City, but it was in July 2003 that she moved her business into the former Burnett’s Shoe Store at 214 South First St.
Mrs. Wright has been providing nursing uniforms and equipment as well as her line of sporting goods, trophies and plaques for her customers for nearly two decades, but she recently decided to retire.
Her retirement was welcome news for Mrs. Smith, who has taken over Sports Base’s line of trophies and plaques, as well as the business’ computerized engraving machine.
The Locker Room is located at 317 West Reelfoot Ave. and has been operating since 1975.
The sporting goods store features a variety of sports equipment, athletic shoes and clothing.
The acquisition of The Locker Room’s stock will enable Mrs. Smith and her staff to better serve their customers with a broader selection of merchandise and services.
