69 YEARS — Mr. and Mrs. William “Bill” Tanner of Union City will celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary March 19. No formal celebration is planned, but the couple intends to visit Mrs. Tanner’s home church — the Presbyterian church in Brownsville — to reminisce with friends who attended their wedding. He married the former Doris Brinker Russell March 19, 1942, in her grandfather’s home in Brownsville. The late Rev. William James, pastor of the Presbyterian church in Brownsville, officiated. She is the daughter of the late Ray Brinker and Emelene Bishop Brinker. She was a professor of history at the University of Tennessee at Martin and was a member of WASP during World War II. He is the son of the late Walker and Dot Beck Tanner. He was a farmer all his life, except for the years he spent in military service during World War II. They have a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie Tanner and Lynn Bowlin; and a son and daughter-in-law, the late Thomas Walker Tanner and Sally Jolly Tanner, all of Union City. They have three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
