Two guns and a cash box with money inside were stolen from a Union City residence over the weekend.
Harvey D. Newberry of 1212 East Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive reported to the Union City Police Department on Sunday that someone had broken into his home and stolen the firearms and money.
Taken were a 9mm Ruger stainless pistol worth $350 and a Heckler & Koch .22 caliber rifle/pistol in a hard plastic black case valued at $450. Both were recent purchases, he said.
Newberry said he left his residence about 8 p.m. Saturday and, when he returned at midnight, someone had forced open the rear door, possibly using a shovel, which was left there but does not belong to Newberry.
