Chattanooga knocks off UTM

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin softball suffered an 8-2 loss Sunday afternoon to host Chattanooga in the final day of the Frost Classic.
The Skyhawks managed six hits in the game and scored both of their runs in the fifth inning. Freshman Morgan Lewis opened the inning with a double to right field and senior Megan Latimer drew a walk. Both players scored when senior Jordan Garrett singled up the middle.
Junior Jenny Bain had two hits in the game for the Skyhawks.
With the loss the Skyhawks fall to 7-6 on the year. The team went 3-2 in the Frost Classic with victories over Northern Iowa, Toledo and IUPUI. Two of the three wins were complete game shutouts. Junior Chelsea Jones picked up the victories. She recorded a career-high 15 strikeouts and set a school record against Northern Iowa. She struck out 11 and gave up two hits against IUPUI.
The UT Martin softball team will return to action on Friday when the Skyhawks hit the road to begin a weekend of play in the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational at Fort Myers, Fla.
