The host Tigers held their only lead of the game as the horn sounded. Paul Ulderich fired in his fifth 3-pointer beating the buzzer and the Jackets, 66-63, in the Region 7-A tourney quarterfinals. The loss brought an end to Greenfield’s season. The Jackets led by as many as 11 points twice including at the half, and the score was tied four times. The Tigers found the range from 3-point land after halftime, and when they did miss often snared the rebound for second-chance points. Tigers Ulderich and Haden Williams scorched the nets for 33 second-half points. In the first quarter, it was GHS grabbing rebounds and drilling trifectas. Graham Perkins had four points on putbacks. Senior Wes Clark scored six of his 10 first-quarter points behind the arch. Tony Robinson added a trey as the Jackets held a 19-11 edge after a quarter. Tyler Jones’ 3-ball opened scoring in the second frame to stretch the lead to 11. Elijah Phillips scored six consecutive Tiger points in a 10-0 run that made it 24-21. The Jackets responded. Clark scored the final five points of the half on a trey and a spinning layup for a 40-29 halftime lead. The second half belonged to the Bruceton guards. Greenfield turnovers early in the third allowed the Tigers to claw back. Ulderich caught fire with a trio of treys in the third. Williams had seven points in the frame including the triple that knotted the score at 47 with 3:17 left in the third. Perkins put G’field back on top with a layup off a Clark assist. Heath Crouse had a fastbreak layup, and Clark made it a six-point lead with charity shots. Heading into the fourth, The Jackets were ahead, 53-49. A Crouse layup put Greenfield in front, 63-59, with 3:59 left. The Jackets never scored again. Three GHS turnovers and four misses allowed Bruceton to even the score at 63 when Williams turned a turnover into a fastbreak layup with 2:35 to play. Williams had 14 fourth-quarter points. Jones came up with a steal and was fouled with 23 ticks left. He missed the front end of the one-and-one chance, and Tiger Chandler Jordan pulled the rebound. On the game’s final play, Bruceton whipped the ball from the baseline corner to Ulderich out front. His final shot rattled through setting off a Tiger celebration. The game closed the high school hoop careers of seniors Dalton Potts, Wes Clark and Tyler Jones. Region 7-A Tournament None
