‘GLASS’-Y DONATION
‘GLASS’-Y DONATION — Friends of the Meek Library have donated copies of “The Glass Castle” to students at Crossroad Teen Center in Martin. Ten students from the Martin Housing Authority-sponsored organization are planning to attend the March 9 opportunity for teens who have read the best-seller to meet and hear from the author, Jeannette Walls, at one of two events planned next week. Dr. Lynn Alexander, president of Friends of the Meek Library, posed with those students recently. The group included (seated, from left) Shamiah Perry, Xavier Gilliam, (standing, front row) Taylor Barlow, Heavenly Mack, Erica Armstrong, Dr. Alexander, (back row) Calvin Walker, Quaneshia Porter, Trey Tipton, Candice Horton and Jada Perry. Ms. Walls will be the featured speaker at the Union City Rotary Club Distinguished Speaker banquet March 8 at 6 p.m. at the Hampton Centré. A limited number of tickets are still available at Lanzer’s Printing and Office Supply in downtown Union City or by contacting Angie Morrow at 885-0366 or 884-0088 or Kristi Kizer at 446-8422. Ms. Walls will speak to students who have read her book from Union City, Obion County Central and South Fulton high schools; Union City Middle School; and Crossroads Teen Center March 9 at the Union City Civic Auditorium.
