Countdown to Kindergarten planned

Weakley County educators and other area officials will join forces on Saturday, March 5, at the Ned McWherter Weakley County Library in Dresden from 10 a.m.–12 p.m. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. for Countdown to Kindergarten. Parents who have a youngster going to Kindergarten for the first time this coming fall are encouraged to attend this free workshop. Those attending will get expert advice, learn helpful hints, and hear insider secrets that can make going to Kindergarten exciting and fun for both children and parents.

The first 50 kindergarteners-to-be who bring an adult to Countdown to Kindergarten will receive a free “I’m going to Kindergarten” t-shirt.

From 10 –11 a.m. experts will give tips on making the Kindergarten experience an outstanding one for both parents and children. While adults are attending this session, children will join their peers in the children’s library area.  Storytellers, book readers, face painters, plus many other organized activities, including refreshments, will be available to the youngsters.  Children will also be able to ride on a school bus at this event.

From 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.  parents and guardians will be able to talk one-on-one with experts stationed at information booths located throughout the library.   Participating will be a current Kindergarten teacher, a school nurse, a public librarian,  WLJT’s Director of Education and Outreach plus many more.

Countdown to Kindergarten is sponsored by WLJT-DT, Ned McWherter Weakley County Library and the Weakley County School System.
