OVC honors King

KING
MARTIN, Tenn. – For the seventh time this season, a University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball player has been named Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week, as Troy King was honored Monday with the league’s weekly accolade.
King averaged 16.5 points for the Skyhawks this past week in games at Eastern Illinois and at home against Missouri Valley Conference member Bradley. He pulled down five rebounds per game and shot 52 percent from the floor, including a blistering 58 percent (7-for-12) from beyond the 3-point line.
The Gaithersburg, Md., native began his week with 13 points and seven rebounds in the big 73-54 win at Eastern Illinois that pushed UT Martin one step closer to an OVC Tournament berth. On Saturday, he had a game-high 20 points, leading the team in scoring for the ninth overall time and fourth time in the last six games. Against Bradley, he drilled a career-best six of his 10 shots from behind the 3-point line, marking a career best in each category.
For the season, King averages 10.4 points per game and is shooting 43 percent from 3-point range, which ranks third in the OVC. In league games, he leads the Skyhawks in scoring (11.6 points per game) and makes 47 percent of his attempts from beyond the 3-point line, which ranks second in the conference.
UT Martin’s seven Freshman of the Week honorees shatters a new program record and marks just the seventh instance in which a team has had at least seven Freshman of the Week honorees in a single season since the OVC started naming its Players of the Week in 1978-79.
