Tom D. Copeland, 78, of Martin died Feb. 22, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. He had served two terms as mayor of Martin.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Martin First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Randy Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in East Side Cemetery in Martin.
Friends may call at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin 5-8 p.m. today. The body will lie in state at the church from 9 a.m. until the hour of services Friday.
Pallbearers will be Adam Brewer, Dennis Adkins, Brandon Copeland, Cory Copeland, Jeff Morrison and Michael Stephenson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Bob Carroll Sunday School Class at Martin First United Methodist Church.
The family requests that memorials be made to Martin First United Methodist Church building fund.
He was born March 14, 1932, in Martin, son of the late George Perry and Viola Allene (Yates) Copeland. He was married to the former Carolyn (Rodinson) Turner, who survives, and was the widower of Doris (Watson) Copeland.
He was a graduate of the former Martin High School and attended the former University of Tennessee Junior College in Martin. He was a member of Martin First United Methodist Church and had been the comptroller for Argo-Collier Truck Lines Inc. in Martin. He was also the former Chief Executive Officer of Martin First Federal Savings and Loan and, at the time of his retirement, was the owner of Tom D. Copeland CPA in Humboldt.
Survivors also include his son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Becky Copeland of Lawton, Okla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tina and Richard Brewer and Melinda and Jeff Morrison, all of Martin; his sister, Irene Harper of Martin; and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Darra Adkins; three brothers, J.R. Copeland, W.D. Copeland and Charles Copeland; and his sister, Mildred Covington.
