The Greenfield Yellowjackets put up a fight, but ultimately fell to the state’s second-ranked Class A boys basketball team.
The Jackets were within two at halftime, but the Humboldt Vikings pulled away after the break for a 64-43 victory in the District 14-A Tournament semifinals Friday night in Trenton.
The Jackets worked hard in the paint to keep Greenfield close in the first half. Humboldt hurt itself by missing free throws. Just before the end of the first quarter, Antonio Brooks connected for one of his half dozen 3-pointers for a 15-12 Viking lead. Wes Clark had six in the frame for GHS.
Heath Crouse tallied nine for the Jackets in the second frame, as Greenfield trailed by two, 32-30, at halftime.
In the third, HHS held Greenfield to six and initiated a huge run that propelled the Vikes to the 64-43 win.
