Westview hit nearly three times more charity shots than the Lady Trojans attempted in their 44-33 win in the District 13-AA consolation game. Westview went 20-of-26 at the free-throw stripe, while Dyersburg hit on just 3-of-7 attempts. The bulk of those WHS free throws were made in the decisive fourth quarter. The Lady Chargers held a slim 24-22 lead heading into the final frame. In the fourth, WHS hit 11-of-16 charity shots. “We’re proud to finish third. This is a tough district,” WHS head coach Sean Stephenson said. After a miserable first half for both teams that ended in a 10-all tie, WHS got a second-half lift from Breanna Pitcher. The senior tallied 16 of her game-high 19 points after the intermission. “I told them at halftime we had to play at a higher tempo on offense. Breanna made smart decision about when to drive and when to shoot,” Stephenson noted. The free throws also helped in the third to counter Dyersburg’s Kay K. Tate. Tate sat out the first half but pitched in 10 points in the third. WHS hit 7-of-8 free throws to go with Pitcher’s seven points for the two-point edge heading into the fourth.
