The Tennessee Right to Life Pro-Life High School State Oratory Contest is planned for April. Contest registration is April 5, with the contest set for 6 p.m. April 7 at the Obion County Public Library, located at 1221 East Reelfoot Ave. in Union City.
Local prizes of $100 and $50 for high school students and $50 and $25 for middle school students will be awarded and students will earn the opportunity to advance to the state/national level, where the prize amounts increase dramatically, up to $1,000.
Students are asked to research one of the following life issues — stem cell research, abortion, euthanasia or infanticide — and prepare a five- to seven-minute oral presentation for a panel of judges.
Students in the seventh and eighth grades will make their presentations at 6 that evening, to be followed by high school students in a separate contest.
