UC’s Jake Underwood
wins pro MMA debut
Union City resident Jake Underwood of the local Team Relentless mixed martial arts gym won his pro debut at Paducah Expo Center on Saturday.
Underwood claimed a victory in 47 seconds with a knockout via head kick.
Team Relentless’ Earnest Robinson and Daniel Garrison both won amateur bouts by decision in Paducah.

among OVC honorees
For the seventh time this season, a UT Martin men’s basketball player has been named Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week as Troy King was honored on Monday with the league’s weekly accolade.
King averaged 16.5 points for the Skyhawks last week in games at Eastern Illinois and at home against Missouri Valley Conference member Bradley.
The Gaithersburg, Md., native began his week with 13 points and seven rebounds in the 73-54 win at Eastern Illinois that pushed UT Martin one step closer to an OVC Tournament berth. On Saturday, he had a game-high 20 points, leading the team in scoring for the ninth overall time and fourth time in the last six games.
Skyhawk gal Haislip
earns league award
UT Martin’s Jaclissa Haislip has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week.
Haislip put up 21.5 points per game while shooting 58.3 percent from the floor and 60.0 percent from beyond the arc last week.
She made her first five three-point attempts in the win over Southeast Missouri and finished the game by making 6-of-7 treys to score 18 points. Haislip was 6-of-13 from 3-point land with 25 points in a loss to Eastern Illinois.
Haislip also received consideration for the circuit’s Player of the Week award, which ultimately went to Eastern Illinois’ Mariah King.
