Mary Virginia (Miles) Cox, 100, of Jackson, a former longtime resident of Union City, died Feb. 18, 2011, at Jackson Meadows.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at East View Cemetery, with Dr. Cecil Kirk and the Rev. Jerry Leggett officiating. George A. Smith & Sons North Chapel in Jackson is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Miles Cox Sr., Brian Curtis Cox, John Buckley Cox Sr., Christopher William Cox, James Thorpe and John Miles.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to First Christian Church of Jackson or to First United Methodist Church of Jackson.
Mrs. Cox was born Sept. 22, 1910, daughter of the late Floy (Coble) and C.W. Miles Jr. She graduated in 1928 from Union City High School, then went on to graduate from the University of Missouri in 1932.
In 1934 she married Bertram C. “Bert” Cox. They were married for 46 years before his death.
She was extremely active in her community, where she was a member of Chi Omega, Daughters of the American Revolution and Union City Duplicate Club, and she was a charter member of the Review Club of Union City. She was a long-time member of First Christian Church of Jackson.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Charles and Betsy (Buckley) Cox of Jackson; four grandsons and their spouses, Brian Curtis and Gabrielle Cox, John Buckley Cox Sr. and Martha Cox, Christopher William and Courtney Cox and Kevin Miles Cox Sr.; and six great-grandchildren, Kevin Miles Cox Jr., Charles William Cox II, Ava Marie Cox, John Buckley Cox Jr., William Madison Cox and Carter Buckley Cox.
She was also preceded in death by her grandson’s wife, Kristen Cox.
