VeggieTales, Sesame Street coming to Central Baptist Church

Meet the guys behind children’s television and film. Mike Nawrocki,co-founder of Veggie Tales and voice of Larry the Cucumber, will be premiering the next Veggie Tales movie, “’Twas the Night Before Easter” at Central Baptist Church in Martin on Saturday, Feb. 26, at 9:30 a.m.

He’ll be joined by friend and fellow children’s television veteran, Emmy–winning director Steve Feldman.

“We’re thrilled to have men of Mike and Steve’s caliber to help us launch our Kids on Mission program,” said Elliot Linhoss, interim pastor at Central.

“And who doesn’t love Bob, Larry, Elmo, and Barney on a Saturday morning?”

Kids on Mission will support two missions through the end of Summer 2011 Reload (, a non-profit producing films and television shows created from a Biblical worldview and the mission work of recording artist Nathan Herron in Haiti.

The event is free and seating capacity is limited, so arrive early. This serves as the launch event for Central’s Kids on Mission Program and opportunity will be given to donate to Kids on Mission. Veggie and Sesame Street-themed snacks will be provided.

Mike and Steve are happy to sign DVDs brought to the event. All ages are welcome.

Beginning his career as a night switchboard operator at WGBH in Boston, Emmy-winning director Steve Feldman has since worked with talent as varied as Bill Maher, Linda Ellerbee, Bill Nye, and Elmo on networks including PBS, CBS, Disney, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Comedy Central, MSNBC and Discovery.

His credits include Sesame Street, the ‘Nick News, Politically Incorrect, The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss, BAFTA Award-winning children’s series LazyTown, and the debut musical theatre production for Walden Media, Rock Odyssey.

In addition, he has produced and directed documentaries on prison life for MSNBC and is currently developing a documentary feature about the life of David Berkowitz, the “Son of Sam”.

As co-creator of VeggieTales and voice of beloved Larry The Cucumber, Mike Nawrocki has been part of the pulse of Big Idea since its inception in 1993.

Mike has created, written and directed most of the extremely popular “Silly Songs with Larry” segments and lent his screenwriting and directing talents to several VeggieTales episodes such as Madame Blueberry, and both of the properties’ theatrical release films, Jonah and The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything.

For more than 20 years, Mike has been in a production environment, landing his first job in video post- production in 1987 while in college. Along with fellow co-worker and friend Phil Vischer, he turned an idea for telling stories, using the  then new technology of 3D computer animation, into the first ever CGI (computer-generated imagery) video series to the consumer market. Mike makes his home in Franklin, TN with his wife and two children.
