Points in the paint were the difference for the Gleason girls in earning a pivotal tournament win.
The GHS Lady Bulldogs outscored the Bruceton Lady Tigers 38-4 inside the 3-point arch in taking a 64-30 victory in the quarterfinals of the District 13-A Tournament Monday night in Tater Town.
With the win, the No. 2-seeded Gleason advances to the semifinals where it will take on Big Sandy’s Lady Red Devils at 7:30 Thursday night in Atwood. Big Sandy, the No. 6 seed, upset No. 3 West Carroll, 67-56.
The Lady Dawgs weren’t to be denied in the opening quarter, pouring in 27 points including a pair of 3-pointers from Camille Cooper and one each from Sara Hensley and Ashley Coble. Briana Jones took care of the inside baskets, scoring twice, and added three free throws to help GHS to a 27-8 lead after one.
Bruceton never did overcome its early deficit, trailing 37-17 at halftime and 51-26 after three quarters.
