Completed arrangements are being announced for John Grennell Westmoreland, 59, of Union City, who died Feb. 16, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City emergency room.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with Tom Elam officiating. Burial will follow in East View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Moss, Arron Webb, Gerome McElrath, Darrell Davis, Jackie Maddox and Eric Maddox. Honorary pallbearers will be Pete Todd, Davis Jones, Jim Crayne and Earl Downey.
He was born Sept. 17, 1951, in St. Louis, son of Pearl (Bass) Westmoreland of Rives and the late Roland Westmoreland He married the former Rutherlin “Ruth” Harris Aug. 13, 1982. She survives. He was the winner of the first Fall Fest Barbecue cookoff for shoulders.
He is also survived by his daughter, Tess Westmoreland of Union City; his son and daughter-in-law, Jovan and Holly Westmoreland of Union City; four grandchildren, Ashton Westmoreland, Jovan Westmoreland Jr., Michael Westmoreland and Zarria Rogers, all of Union City; two brothers, Vaughn Westmoreland of Union City and Venory Westmoreland of Indiana; his sister and brother-in-law, Ina and Leroy Brown of Rives; two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Kathryn and Sammy Warren of Union City and Lea Jean and Ray Boyle of Somerville; two aunts, Alberta Hall of Indiana and Lena Mae DeBow of California; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by his twin sister, Jettaun Savage.
