Westview, the No. 3 seed, held the Haywood Lady Tomcats to two points in the second quarter on the way to a 58-29 win in the District 13-AA tourney quarterfinals Tuesday night in Dyer. The win advances the Lady Chargers to both the district semifinals and the upcoming regional tourney. WHS will next take on Gibson County at 7:30 Thursday night at Dyersburg. Westview used a balanced offensive attack in defeating Haywood for the second time this season. The sixth-seeded Lady Tomcats pulled off the upset, 45-40 in the initial meeting on Dec. 17. “In a do-or-die game, you know you’ve got to come out focused. Losing to them earlier kept us focused. We played our best game of the year. We played a solid game,” WHS head coach Sean Stephenson noted. Three different Lady Chargers scored in double figures in the must-win game. Taylor Swaim topped all scorers with 17 points, while Breanna Pitcher put in 15 points and Kaley Leyhue added a dozen points. Chelsea Owens tallied 11 points for Haywood. After carrying a solid 21-13 lead into the second quarter. Westview clamped down and limited Haywood to two points while pouring in 12 to stretch its advantage to 33-15 at halftime. The lead grew to 44-23 after three in the 58-29 win. District 13-AA Tournament None
