After building a big lead, the Greenfield Lady Yellowjackets weren’t about to let up the pressure.
The Lady Yellowjackets repeatedly harassed the Peabody Lady Golden Tide into mistakes and misses en route to a 61-30 quarterfinal win in the District 14-A Tournament on Monday night at Greenfield.
With the win, Greenfield will next take on Union City at 7:30 on Thursday night at Trenton. UC defeated South Fulton, 52-39, in its quarterfinal match.
After a 7-all tie, Greenfield, the No. 2 seed, continued to score in the paint via Shameilla McMullen and Emily Randolph hoops. Randolph’s putback just prior to the horn gave GHS a 16-9 lead after a quarter.
In the second frame, Greenfield found the range from outside. Jordan Galey drilled a trio of 3-pointers and Abbey McDaniel added a long-range connection for a 33-15 halftime edge.
Haley Rawls took over for Greenfield in the third. The junior, who has been hampered by injury most of the season, picked off five passes and assisted on six baskets. She added a jumper and contributed greatly on both ends to  stretch the lead to a peak of 34 at 57-23 at the end of the frame.
The fourth-quarter minutes were mainly played by Greenfield subs. Kendall Cook drilled two jumpers to close out the 61-30 win.
GHS seniors Galey with 21 points and Randolph with 12 led the way along with McMullen’s 14 points. Peabody’s Lorna Hudson was held to 10 points.
