Paul Wendal Butts, 81, of Fulton died 9:29 p.m. Feb. 11, 2011, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hornbeak Funeral Home in Fulton, with entombment following in Obion County Memorial Gardens mausoleum.
Paul Adams will officiate and friends may call at the funeral home 6-8 this evening and on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until the hour of services.
The family requests that memorials be made to American Heart Association, Ohio Valley affiliate, 333 Guthrie St., Suite 207, Louisville, KY 40202; or Fulton First Baptist Church, 115 Second St., Fulton, KY 42041.
He was born June 1, 1929, in Fulton County, Ky., son of the late Paul and Georgia (Thompson) Butts. He was married to the former Louise Reese, who survives, for 63 years, and was a member of Fulton First Baptist Church. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a graduate of Fulton High School and attended Purdue University. He joined his father at the A.C. Butts and Sons family business founded by his late grandfather, A.C. Butts, in the 1920s. He and his wife also owned and operated the W. & L. Dollar stores in Fulton, Hickman, Ky., and Greenfield during the late 1960s.
He had been past president of the Lions Club and Fulton Country Club. He had also been an active member of the Jaycees.
Survivors also include his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Cubb Stokes; five grandchildren and their spouses, Michael Todd and Kelly Butts of Paducah, Ky., Robert Wendal and Emily Butts, Arthur Paul and Sabrina Butts and Natalie Reese Stokes, all of Nashville, and Fredric Nicholas and Rae Jean Stokes of Yerevan, Armenia; and six great-grandchildren, Margaret Butts and Jack Butts, both of Paducah, and Paul Butts, Bo Butts, Sammy Butts and Bryant Butts, all of Nashville.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Paul Michael Butts.
