Baseball sign-ups
for Troy, W’land

The final Woodland and Troy Little League baseball sign-ups for ages 4-12 will be held on Tuesday.
The W’land sign-ups will take place at the Woodland Civic Center from 5-7 p.m.
Troy registrations will be taken from 5-7 at Troy First Baptist Church.
Fees for the youngsters registering is $20.

UTM gals near top;
men fall to TN Tech

The UT Martin women’s team cemented its spot in the upper echelon of the Ohio Valley Conference on Saturday.
Senior Alecia Weatherly made six 3-pointers and scored 23 points to lead UTM to an 83-56 victory over OVC leader Tennessee Tech.
The Skyhawk women (16-9, 11-3 in OVC action) still trail the Golden Eagles (19-5, 13-2) by a game and a half in the league standings.
In the nightcap, freshman Troy King led the UTM with 19 points, but Tennessee Tech shot 82.6 percent in the second half and left town with an 85-71 OVC win.
The UT Martin men play at Eastern Illinois on Tuesday.
Both the Skyhawks and Panthers own identical 4-11 league records and are tied with each other for eighth  with three OVC games left (the top eight teams advance to the OVC Tournament).

splits at La. Classic

The UT Martin softball team opened its 2011 campaign with a 2-2 weekend at Southeastern Louisiana’s Lion Classic.
The Skyhawk women opened the event with a 4-2 loss to Jackson State and then suffered a 4-2 setback to the host team.
Then, UT Martin edged the University of Missouri-Kansas City 3-2 and closed out play with an 11-3 victory over Saint Louis.
