Union City police are investigating a local woman’s claim that she was assaulted late Saturday night while walking on North Division Street.
The 46-year-old Union City woman told police she was walking south on North Division Street between 10:30 and 11 p.m. Saturday when a lone black man assaulted her, according to a Union City Police Department report.
The woman said she had left her residence and walked south on North Division Street on the sidewalk for about seven to eight blocks when she noticed a man walking north toward her. She said when they met, the man grabbed her by the right arm and struck her in the head.
The woman told police she either fell or stumbled and, during the assault, grabbed the man in the groin area to stop the attack.
According to the report, the woman told police she left and walked home after the incident. She said she felt the man was out of the area and she did not call police to report the incident. She told police her head was hurting when she got up Sunday morning and she went to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City’s emergency room, where the staff contacted police.
