Sheriff’s department warns of potential scam

Consumers beware. The Weakley County Sheriff’s Department is issuing a warning about conveying personal information to strangers over the telephone.

Several local people have reported to the WCSD that someone has called them claiming to be with a company offering lower interest rates on credit cards, according to a press release issued last week by the department.

The person on the phone has apparently asked for birthdates, Social Security numbers and other identifying information.

The 800 number the person provides is reportedly not a working number and the number the person calls from is most likely a cell phone number that cannot be traced.

To report any scam, call the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department at 364-5454.
