The Weakley County Sheriff’s Department is reminding local residents to be cautious about giving personal information to someone they do not know.
Several Weakley County residents have reported to authorities that someone called them claiming to be with a company offering lower interest rates on credit cards and asked for birth dates, Social Security numbers and other identifying information.
The toll-free number the company provides is not a working number and the number they call from is most likely a cell phone that cannot be traced, according to investigator Randall McGowan of the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department.
