A balanced offensive output helped the Westview Lady Chargers avenge one of their District 13-AA losses.
Westview had three scorers in double digits and another tally nine points as it dominated the Haywood Lady Tomcats, 52-28, on Tuesday night in Martin.
The Westview boys made it a sweep with their highest-scoring game of the season, winning 93-77, to top their total in their first victory over Haywood on Dec. 17, 2010.
In the girls game, Westview earned a season split by taking control in the second and third quarters thanks to pinpoint accuracy from 3-point land. After a low-scoring first quarter that saw Westview tally just two of the six total points scored, the Lady Chargers erupted for 22 in the second frame. The Westview defense held Haywood to nine to carry a 24-13 lead into the locker room at the half.
The Lady Chargers didn’t let up in the third, pouring in 21 points while limiting the Lady Tomcats to 13.
Leading 45-26 heading into the fourth, the Westview girls learned from their last encounter with the Lady Tomcats. In their earlier meeting, Haywood rallied late for the 45-40 win.
WHS didn’t allow a repeat, giving up two fourth-quarter points to win 52-28.
Teddy Vincent topped all scorers with 13 points, while seniors Jacey Sims and Breanna Pitcher each added 11 points. Taylor Swaim finished with nine.
In the boys game, Charger seniors Jacob Lloyd and Dillon Gardner both repeatedly ripped the nets in the Chargers’ 93-77 win.
Lloyd contributed more than a third of those points, finishing with 32, while Gardner connected a half dozen times from the 3-point line to end with 24 points.
Westview led 22-17 after a quarter and 45-39 at the half. Heading into the fourth, the WHS advantage stood at double digits, 63-53.
In addition to Lloyd and Gardner’s double-digit efforts, Westview got 16 points from Javier Gordon and 11 points from Antonio Hogard.
