Twister hoops twinbill
to begin at 5 tonight

The threat of winter weather has once again changed the prep basketball slate.
This evening’s twinbill between Union City and Halls is now set to begin an hour earlier at 5 p.m.

UC alum Sherwood
a top juco hitter

Former Union City High School baseball standout Camron Sherwood has been listed in the Collegiate Baseball 2011 magazine as one of the top junior college hitters in the nation.
Sherwood, a middle infielder at Jackson State Community College, hit .395 last year in his freshman season with the Generals.
A right-handed hitter and thrower, the 5-9, 175-pound Sherwood was a three-year starter at UCHS.
Jackson State is scheduled to open the 2011 season Saturday (weather permitting) at home with a twinbill against Arkansas Baptist.
The Generals are coached by Steve Cor-nelison.

Final LL sign-ups
set in W’land, Troy

The final Woodland and Troy Little League baseball sign-ups for ages 4-12 will be held Monday.
The W’land sign-ups will take place at the Woodland Civic Center from 5-7 p.m.
Troy registrations will be taken from 5-7 the same evening at the Troy Community Center.
Fees for the youngsters registering is $20 per child.

writes about Pujols

Union University’s director of news and media relations, Tim Ellsworth, has co-authored a new book that describes the career and Christian testimony of St. Louis Cardinals’ first baseman Albert Pujols.
Ellsworth and fellow Union alumnus Scott Lamb teamed up to write “Pujols: More than the Game,” which was released on Tuesday..
Both Ellsworth and Lamb are avid baseball fans who grew up following the St. Louis Cardinals.
The book traces his early life and rise to stardom, his take on the steroid era in baseball, his philanthropic efforts and the role his Christian faith has played — and continues to play — in his life.
