MURFREESBORO (AP) — Murfreesboro police officials say a police dog bit a Murfreesboro firefighter who was trying to assist in the capture of a burglary suspect.
Police spokesman Kyle Evans said K-9 Officer Trey Mansfield and his dog were at the scene of a burglary on Wednesday and he released the dog when the burglary suspect refused to stop. However, Mansfield was not aware that firefighter Lance Sutton was also trying to catch the suspect.
Evans told The Daily News Journal that as the dog was running toward the suspect, Sutton came running out from behind two houses. Evans said the dog is trained to respond to the greatest threat and instead went after the firefighter.
Sutton was treated for serious bite wounds, but was released from the hospital.
The burglary suspect was caught and charged.
