Completed arrangements are being announced for L.J. Crawford, 70, of Union City, who died 12:20 a.m. Feb. 2, 2011, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Services with full military honors will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home. The Revs. Billy Crowell and Marvin Wilson will officiate. Burial will follow in Old Republican Cemetery near Union City.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. Friday.
Pallbearers will be Scott Grim Jr., Timothy Crawford, Rob Ring, Jimmy Ring, Josh McGowan, Caleb McMillion and Jimmy Roper.
He was born July 13, 1940, in Union City, son of Iona (Reedy) Parnell of Union City and the late Raymond Hardy Crawford Sr. He was a 14-year veteran of the U.S. Army and an 11-year veteran of the Army National Guard and had served in the Vietnam Conflict and in Desert Storm and Desert Shield.
He was a life member of Jones-Walker Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4862 in Union City and a member of Harmony Baptist Church in Dresden. He was co-owner of A Little Bit of Everything in Union City.
He is survived by his wife, Judy (Wilson) Crawford, whom he married July 28, 1991; his daughter, Kathy Grim of Plato, Mo.; two sons and daughters-in-law; Timothy and Wilma Crawford of Plato and Billy and Colvine Crowell of Union City; his brother, Raymond Crawford Jr. of Rutherford; five grandchildren, Allison Thomas of Phoenix, Scott Alan Grim Jr. and Nancy Grim, both of Plato, and James Matthew Crowell and Sarah Crowell, both of Union City; his great-granddaughter, Lilyann Thomas of Phoenix; his cousin and his wife, Rob and Debbie Ring of Union City; his aunt; his uncle; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Joann Legans; and two great-grandchildren, Conner Grim and Shayla Nicole Grim.
