Weather alters slate
Winter weather wreaked havoc on the prep and junior high basketball schedules again Tuesday.
The threat of sleet and snow forced both the scheduled twinbills for Obion Central and South Fulton off the slate.
SF, which had begun the trek to Tiptonville Tuesday before reversing course and coming back home, will make up its missed 14A twinbill with Lake County Saturday night.
Meanwhile, the Rebel squads will now play their doubleheader with District 13AA foe Gibson County on Monday evening.
Thus, OC will take to the hardwood four nights next week.
After Monday’s district games with GC, the Rebels travel to Milan on Tuesday for another league encounter and then hosts Haywood on Friday in 13AA play.
On Saturday, a showdown between the fourth-ranked Rebel girls and No. 2-ranked Liberty at 8:30  highlights a Coaches vs. Cancer night of action that also includes the Obion Central boys.
Union City’s basketball outing at Humboldt was the lone hoops action that took place on Tuesday.
However, the Tornadoes’ doubleheader did begin an hour early.
In junior high basketball news, Tuesday evening’s opening-round game in the West Tennessee Athletic Conference pitting the host Union City against Crestview was also taken from the schedule due to the freezing rain that moved in during the early afternoon hours.
The UCMS boys’ team returns to action at 12:50 Saturday afternoon at Three Oaks in the first round of the Area 4 Tournament against Lake County.
The WTAC Tournament has been put on hold until the completion of the Area 4 event.
