Iry J. Dunlap

Iry J. “Junior” Dunlap, 89, of Chapel Hill, formerly of Dresden, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2011 at Williamson Medical Center, Franklin.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel with Bobby Dunlap officiating. Burial was in Sunset Cemetery.

Mike Suchy, Mike Argo, David Dunlap, Chuck Timmons, Rita Dunlap Brown and Billy Sanderson served as pallbearers.

Dunlap was born Sept. 1, 1921 in Dresden, son of the late Ivy E. and Bessie Owen Dunlap. He was a World War II Army Veteran, foreman for General Motors in Ypsilanti, Mich., a member of Dresden Masonic Lodge and member of Warren Valley Methodist Church in Dearborn Heights, Mich.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Geneva L. Mink Dunlap of Chapel Hill; four daughters, Joyce Dunlap of Munith, Mich., Sheila Timmons of Chapel Hill, Barbara Suchy and Susan Davis, both of Garden City, Mich.; one sister, Betty Argo of Wynn, Ark.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Charles Gregory Davis; one sister, Edna Faye Sanderson; and three brothers, A. J. Dunlap, Guy A. Dunlap and Joe Dunlap.

Glynn Ray Quarles

Glynn Ray Quarles, 79, of Martin, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011 at the home of his daughter.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Friday at Murphy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mace Jett officiating. Burial was in East Side Cemetery.

Buster Ferrell, Jesse Ferrell, Jacob Ferrell, Brian Matthews, Kenny Sutherland and Danny Black served as pallbearers.

Quarles was born Dec. 4, 1931 in Weakley County, son of the late Cecil and Stella Tutor Quarles. He was the widower of Joyce Crowell Quarles. He was retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, Union City and was a farmer and a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Tommy Quarles of Martin; one daughter Joyce Rae Ferrell of Martin; two grandchildren, Glynn “Buster” Ferrell and Jesse Thomas Ferrell; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob Ferrell and Allie Ferrell.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Vanita Southerland and Mildred Quarles.

Shelby Jane Rivard

Shelby Jane Rivard, 68, of Dresden, died Sunday, Jan.23, 2011 at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, Jackson.

Services were held at 1 p.m. today at Williams Funeral Home Chapel of Greenfield with Bro. Jerry Powell officiating.. Burial was in Brock’s Cemetery, Greenfield.

Mrs. Rivard was born Jan. 10, 1943 in Greenfield, daughter of the late Sonny and Thelma Swindell Ward.

Survivors include one son, Ben Rivard of Winston-Salem. N.C.; one daughter, Dawn Owens of Dresden; one sister, Helen Palmer of Sharon; and five brothers, Larry Ward of Dewitt, Mich., Jack Ward of Southaven, Miss., Terry Ward of Greenfield, Jerry Ward of Clearwater, Fla. and James Ward of Malberry, Ark.

Dorothea Freeman Williams

Mrs. Dorothea Freeman Williams, 97, of Martin, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011 at Desoto Health Care, Southaven, Miss.

Services were held at 11 a.m. today at Bible Union Baptist Church, Martin with Rev. Terry Griffin officiating. Burial was in East Side Cemetery with Murphy Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Mrs. Williams was born Feb. 28, 1913 in Weakley County, daughter of the late Joseph F. and Jessie Davis Freeman. She was the widow of William Daniel Williams. She was retired from Merit Clothing Company and a member of Bible Union Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Doyle and Phyllis Williams of Horn Lake, Miss.; one daughter and son-in-law, Winnie and James Castleman of Martin; one brother, Doyle Freeman of Indiana; one sister, Maxine Chambers of Southaven; nine grandchildren, Paxton McClain, Preston McClain, Jimmy Williams, Danny Williams, Tammy Alexander, Michael Williams, Alicia Brown, Deann Gilliam and Shane Rhodes.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Cleo Freeman, Edd Freeman, Gaither Freeman and Woodrow Freeman; and two sisters, Selma Gatewood and Emma Davis.

Larry Leo Yates

Larry Leo “Sonny” Yates, 61, of Martin, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011 at his residence.

Memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a later date. Burial will be held at East Side Cemetery, Martin with Murphy Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Yates was born May 30, 1949 in Martin, son of Mrs. Dorothy McDaniel Yates of Sharon and the late Larry Yates. He was a graduate of Martin High School and a truck driver. He was a U. S. Navy veteran.

Survivors also include one daughter, Michele Yates of Clarksville; and one brother, Bill Yates of Sharon.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Crystal Yates; and one sister, Marsha Yates.
