Hudson, a guard for the No. 1-ranked Union University Lady Bulldogs team, has been named the NAIA National Division I Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. The former Miss Basketball Award winner at the high school level and All-American at the collegiate level was selected based on her performances from Jan. 10-16 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.
She was also named the TranSouth Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for that same span. It’s the second TranSouth award this season for Hudson. She was also selected for the award on Nov. 29, 2010.
The 5-foot-8 guard has scored 20 or more points in five consecutive games and has helped Union get off to a 17-0 start. In the 65-52 win over Lyon (Ark.) on Jan. 13, she chalked up 26 points on 8-of-15 shooting and was 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
Hudson’s strong play continued into the NAIA Game of the Week against No. 4 Freed-Hardeman where she scored 27 points and dished out seven assists en route to a 76-65 win on Jan 15.
Hudson, a senior, finished the week averaging 26.5 points, four assists and 3.5 rebounds. She was 15-of-30 (.500) from the floor and was 8-of-18 (.444) from beyond the arc.
She is listed among the nation’s top-10 players in four statistical categories, ranking second in total 3-point field goals made (59), third in 3-point field goals made per game (3.3), seventh in assists-to-turnover ratio (2.4) and eighth in 3-point field goal percentage (.457).
This is the first time Hudson has received National Player of the Week honors.
