Roger D. Dowdy

Roger D. Dowdy, 56, of Martin, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2011 at the Volunteer Community Hospital, Martin.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Murphy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randy Cooper officiating. Burial was in Stanley’s Chapel Cemetery, Union City.

David Hauhe, Rob McKnight, Keith Turner, Eric Dowdy, Stan Baker, Jon Pritchett, Keith Newton and Randy Runion served as pallbearers. George Mesimer and Kelly Taylor served as honorary pallbearers.

Dowdy was born March 26, 1954 in Martin, son of Milton and Hazel Cothron Dowdy of Martin. He was a 1972 graduate of Westview High School, was a farmer and member of First United Methodist Church, Martin.

Survivors also include his wife, Mrs. Linda Jackson Dowdy of Martin; one son and daughter-in-law, Dwayne and Dishell Dowdy of Union City; one daughter and son-in-law, Allison and Chad Plunk of Rives; one brother and sister-in-law, Waldrop and Tami Dowdy of Union City; and four grandchildren, Walker Plunk, Cothron Plunk, Brentley Dowdy and Bracen Dowdy.

George William Franks

George William Franks, 80, of Dresden, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2011 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, Jackson.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Larry Reagan officiating. Burial was in Sunset Cemetery, Dresden.

Darrell Bledsoe, Darrell Bledsoe Jr., James Smothers, Mouse Collins, Donnie Essary and Tommy Warner served as pallbearers. Bill Bledsoe, T. W. Farmer and Jerry Ivy served as honorary pallbearers.

Franks was born Nov. 17, 1930 in Kenton, son of the late Willis Hazie and Mamie Wade Yarbrough Franks. He was a retired mechanic for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. and a member of Adams Chapel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mrs. Norma J. Hammock Franks of Dresden; two daughters and sons-in-law, Geraldine and Rodney Minyard of Maury City, Peggy Jean and Jim Pettit of Dresden; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Wayne and Mary Ann Franks of Palma Bay, Fla.; one sister, Annie Mae Climer of Dyersburg; five grandchildren; four step grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and 15 step great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, James Louis Franks; and one great-grandchild.

Mickey L. Maddox

Mickey L. Maddox, 57, of Gleason, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Williams Funeral Home Chapel of Gleason with Bro. Gene Price officiating. Burial was in Hopewell Cemetery.

Maddox was born Oct. 9, 1953 in Martin, son of Mildred Brawner Maddox and the late Ralph Maddox. He was a member of the Tennessee National Guard, a foreman for City of Martin Public Works Department, member of Gleason American Legion and Tumbling Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors also include his wife, Mrs. Phyllis Osteen Maddox of Gleason; one son and daughter-in-law, Tyler and Danielle Maddox of Union City; one daughter, Melanie Shawn of Gleason; three sisters, Wanda Hayes of Dresden, Betty Morris and Cindy Johnson, both of Gleason; and one brother, Michael Maddox of Moreno Valley, Calif.
