| Shenisha Huff and Chase Bowling have been selected by the Wendy’s Heisman program as the Union City High School nominees for the coveted Wendy’s High School Heisman Award. The award honors the nation’s top high school seniors who best exemplify a supreme “citizen-scholar-athlete” and is awarded in conjunction with the collegiate Heisman recognition. |
Miss Huff and Bowling were selected based on their academic aptitude, athletic talent and tremendous display of commitment to their communities.
“We believe it is important to recognize our young people not just for what they do in the classroom or on the field, but for their contributions to communities, as well,” said UCHS principal Wes Kennedy. “The Wendy’s High School Heisman is a great way to showcase their diverse achievements for all to see.”
Miss Huff is the daughter of Scott and Hope Huff of Union City. She is a member of the track and basketball teams and is also a Beta Club, Science Club, Art Club, Pep Club and Family, Careers and Community Leaders of America Club member. Miss Huff has been a consistent Honor Roll and Tornado Pride participant and has been a Top Ten student.
She has earned perfect attendance attention and is a Tennessee Scholar who has claimed awards in basketball and track.
She enjoys writing poetry and reading, as well as playing basketball, and has found several part-time student employment opportunities. She sings in her church choir and takes part in its pantomime group, as well as volunteering for Vacation Bible School.
She plans to attend Union University in Jackson or Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro to prepare to become a family physician.
Bowling is the son of Darren and Dawn Bowling of Union City.
He has been a member of the football team for three years and was named Most Valuable Player as a freshman and a Player of the Week twice by The Messenger. He has also been a member of the UCHS track and baseball teams and is a member and the activities director for Beta Club.
